VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

As a volunteer, you will enjoy the fulfillment of giving to your community and helping a worthy cause but you can also get valuable experience - experience that can escort you to your new job.  The challenge is finding the volunteer position that is right for you.  There are a vast number of volunteer opportunities so the key is to research carefully and astutely select the one that best meets your interests and needs.  Don't be afraid to ask questions before making a commitment.

The team needs committed volunteers with varying skill sets where everyone shares a common goal to make a difference in the fight against cancer. The commitment level varies by role, but typically there are monthly meetings in the evenings and action items to follow up with. Working as a team member with the Volunteer Services Department and the foot clinic nurses you will assist in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our foot clinics. Your organizational skills will enhance the quality of service to our clients. Foot clinics are offered in a variety of locations throughout Brantford, Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk area. The clinics are scheduled on a variety of days and times. As a foot clinic volunteer you would carry out the responsibilities of a receptionist. Duties would include: - Booking appointments - Greeting and organizing clients as they arrive for their appointments - Collecting fees and issuing receipts - Washing foot clinic tools after receiving related training

Hospice Palliative Care Friendly One-2-One Volunteers provide support to clients and their caregivers impacted by a life threatening or terminal illness. Offers support and social interaction to an isolated individual through regular friendly visits at the client's home or out in the community.

Seniors Maintaining Active Roles Together (SMART®) is designed to help aging individuals maintain or improve balance, coordination and stamina through gentle exercise The GROUP SMART® program is a class exercise program for older adults who would benefit from gentle exercise and social interactions in a group setting. Trained volunteers teach these classes. Some classes are held in seniors apartment buildings and some are held in recreation centers or other common community buildings.

Seniors Maintaining Active Roles Together (SMART ®) is designed to help aging individuals maintain or improve balance, coordination and stamina through gentle exercise. The IN-HOME SMART® program is an in-home exercise program for older adults who would benefit from gentle exercise and a social visit from a volunteer. A trained volunteer visits weekly, for 15 weeks with each client in their own home. There is no transportation of the client required. This program is designed to help seniors stay out of hospital, out of retirement homes, out of nursing homes and stay safely in their own homes. All volunteers are screened according to industry best practices and all complete mandatory orientation and training.

The Canadian Cancer Society Brant-Norfolk Unit is looking for volunteers to help deliver our messages on cancer prevention and the services we offer, in your community. Volunteers will be responsible for the delivery of presentations (provided) and/or the set-up and staffing of Canadian Cancer Society health promotional displays to the general public when demand requires. The Volunteer Visiting program offers our clients in the early to mid-stages of Alzheimer?s disease or a related dementia, an opportunity for social stimulation, companionship and moderate activity. The caregivers also benefit through a short period of respite to help re-energize and refocus. Volunteer Visitors share a minimum of 2 hours per week with a client. We will provide you with the tools and ongoing support needed to make your volunteer experience fulfilling and rewarding.
